With the dawn of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the AEC industry stands on the cusp of a lasting transformation. AI promises to revolutionize the way we conceive, plan, execute, and track construction projects, making the construction life cycle more efficient than ever. This Viewpoint article by George Goubran, CEO of Built On Vision, envisions the big changes the AEC industry will likely see due to the rise of artificial intelligence tools.
How does AI incorporate life-work, weather, and life safety related issues on consruction projects?
Thanks Alamdar, that a great and encompassing question that is best answered in the context of an example. Current project risk models generally rely on static assumptions and or input parameters. With AI, project risk models can be adaptive to localized, current, and contemporaneously-adjusted parameters. For instance, weather effect on a construction project can have far reaching consequences, such as what we’ve seen here in California last winter. Modeling and preparing for such risks and consequences with the conventional methods is arguably not better than rolling a pair of dice. With AI, the model can assemble historical data, current data at the exact location of the project, current news about how weather events have recently affected the community, safety hazards created by recent weather events, associate historical data for similar projects with their local historical data to assess what specific operations were likely affected by the weather events, how, and to what extent. The example can go much deeper, but I think you get the picture. The assembled model becomes a far more robust risk analysis model that will likely inform and guide the project.
