Bentley’s Year in Infrastructure 2014 Conference

This article provides an overview of the highlights of Bentley’s annual Year in Infrastructure conference that was held in London last month, including key technology updates from Bentley on its new CONNECT generation of software, additional presentations on different aspects of infrastructure technology by organizations and firms all over the world, and a guest keynote on the new High Speed Rail project proposed for London on which the use of BIM is being seen as the “lifeblood” of the project. The conference also included presentations of all the projects selected as finalists for the Bentley “Be Inspired” awards in different categories, which will be described in a dedicated article in the upcoming Q4 issue of AECbytes magazine.

  1. Could you comment on what you learned about how Bentley solutions was supporting the integration of BIM and FM? I know that Bentley has many solutions for factories, process plants and other industrial facilities, but I would like to learn how building owners can take advantage of their solutions for more effective operation of their buildings.

  2. Thanks for the question, Paul. Bentley didn’t talk specifically about any of its FM applications(which are listed at http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Products/Facility+Information+Management/) but did briefly mention AssetWise, (http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Products/AssetWise/), which seems to be the umbrella for its asset-management solutions across different infrastructure fields. For buildings, specifically, Bentley’s AECOsim Building Designer does not seem to have plug-ins to commonly used FM applications like FM:Systems and ArchiBUS the way Revit does.

  3. Lachmi,
Thanks for checking. This is probably why I was not able to find any test cases of Bentley software that linked BIM to FM. Let’s hope that Bentley chooses to strengthen this connection.
